Following on from my recent review of Deens Fried Chicken, I have continued with my search of other takeaway restaurants in the area that have something to offer.
This time I've headed into my neighbouring town of Chorlton and to Nom Noms on Wilbraham Road.
A filling burger as it should be
Nom Noms are all about Burgers, Steaks, Chops and Milkshakes available as a walk in restaurant for sit in or takeaway, it is also available for delivery through UberEats and Deliveroo.
When entering, you are met with TV screens adorned with images of smashed burgers, the biggest trend on burgers right now.
A smashed burger is beaten down during cooking, which increases the surface area in contact with the hot grill and therefore maximises the Maillard reaction (The thing that creates 'browning' and elevates taste and aromas).
Burgers and Shakes are a perfect Combo
It has to be mentioned however, that I am a fan of rare burgers, but unfortunately these are only available from very limited places due to the strict guidelines involved in serving them safely, so for most fast food restaurants, rare is not an option and so smashing is the way forward, so I couldn't come to Nom Noms without trying theirs.
Loaded with two burgers, lettuce, tomato and pickles and their house sauce, the OG Smash Burger costs £11.45 served with chips and a drink. It's an handful of messy delight, which is exactly how a burger should be. The house sauce is full of flavour, with the burgers actually tasting like a burger. The biggest thing for me is that although smashed and full of texture, the burgers are still juicy and not dry at all, unlike another smashed burger I recently tried elsewhere.
Chicken Steak Meal loaded with Peri Peri Sauce
When it comes to the grill, Nom Noms proudly state that all marinades are made fresh in house, with all meats marinating for at least 24 hours and cooked fresh. Options include Lamb Chops, Chicken Tikka and Fish Masala, Peri Chicken along with mixed options.
The chicken steak meal is a popular choice and is served grilled and diced, served on a choice of chips or rice. With a good hit of spice from the Peri Peri sauce, the chicken breast is succulent with the red onions and peppers bringing more flavour. At just £7.95 including a drink and salad, the serving size would satisfy even the most hungry.
Lamb is full of flavour and so tender
An alternative to chicken is the lamb steak meal (£10.25 with salad and a drink), is shredded and served on a bed of chips or rice. Instead of a chilli hit, this is beautifully seasoned with black pepper, which gives an aromatic bite and for me is a stunning dish. The meat is so tender, thanks to the marinading that has taken place previously.
Tempting Lamb Chops
Equally as tender, are the lamb chops (£9.15 inc a side and drink). These are spicy and beautifully melt in the mouth. I would even go as far as to say that these are some of the finest spiced chops I've had and I've tried many.
Spicy Chicken Wings
Wings are also available in Mild, Hot or BBQ options at just £3.95 for 4 or £5.15 for 6. Now here is my only complaint - I need more napkins. They are finger licking good and you can really make a mess, just as good wings should.
It's not all about food, with drink options including Non Alcoholic Mojitos in a range of fruity flavours including Strawberry, Mango and Raspberry and Lemon and Lime options for £3.40
Milk Shakes and Non Alcoholic Mojitos
Or why not try one of the vast range of milkshake options for £5.15. These are great as a dessert or simply on their own with options that include usually flavours like Vanilla, Strawberry and Banana, to more indulgent options such as Nutella, Mango, Jaffa Cake and Jammy Dodger.
It's always good to try somewhere new, as you never know what you are going to find. Sometimes takeaway establishments can all be labelled with the same brush when the truth is that two establishments in close proximity and selling similar products can be polar opposites. Those that follow me on social media may recall me posting about another smashed burger a few months ago which was lacklustre and disappointing. That experience may well have put me off trying somewhere that on the surface looks similar, however when you dig deeper you realise it couldn't be further apart if you tried.
So if you want to try out Nom Noms for yourself, please do let me know what you think - it is available locally on UberEats and Deliveroo, or check out their website here.
