It's Barbara's birthday weekend (her actual birthday was on Thursday) and so she's had a succession of meals out as part of the celebration.

Last night, there were 9 of us for dinner at this fish restaurant overlooking the harbour so very fitting really.

Below is a selection of all the dishes chosen around the table. It's been so long since we've been out for dinner (and I've had the chance to write about dinner) that I have photos of all the dishes. I actually got to Lyttelton and realised I had left my phone behind. That's a first for me. Barbara gave me her phone so I was able to click away, and she sent the photos to me this morning.

The food is amazing.

I chose the fish (no surprise) done cajun style (gurnard of course, but I could have had blue cod or monkfish) with kumara chips and salad. The fish had salsa on it too.

And then there was birthday cake too:

It was a fabulous night - lots of laughter and fun. It was wonderful to actually do something normal that we, as a group, usually do every Saturday night.

The restaurant was very busy, and we were all very pleasantly surprised when all our meals arrived at the same time. That, surely, is the mark of a well organised kitchen.
