In Which I Write a Poem to a Tart

Hi edward,

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the house,
Everyone wanted hot cocoa, even the mouse.
Mom and dad had an idea that was so very smart,
they could turn that hot cocoa into a tart!

Mom ordered some See's because she loved it so much.
Dad looked at the children and said in a hush,
"This year will be special, you're in for a treat,
for we'll make hot cocoa that you're able to eat!"

Away to the door they all flew like a flash;
When the postman delivered their See's holiday stash.
Then what to their wondering eyes did appear -
Christmas candies galore for all they held dear.

The kids squealed with delight and wrapped each tin in a bow.
Dad looked outside as it started to snow.
Mom got to work, apron down to her knee,
As she moved through the steps, she shouted with glee:

"Now Flour! Now Eggs, Now Cocoa and Butter!
Now Cream! Now Salt! All done - there's no other."
Dad cleaned up the mess that had managed to sprawl,
Pleading, "Help out kids, pitch in one and all."

Mom decorated with Peppermint Twists and Holiday Bordeaux,
And sprigs of rosemary, while their tree was aglow.
"But, mom, can we eat now?" The kids begged before bed.
"Not 'til it chills - we'll have tart tomorrow instead."

When morning came, they finally ate the hot cocoa tart,
Licked chocolate off their faces, and looked up with a start.
Santa had come early, he was staring at Mom's slice,
She said, "Here, Santa. Don't forget I've been nice."

On Christmas eve, they saw him on his sleigh in the sky.
Mom waved "Merry Christmas" to the jolly tart-loving guy!

I hope you enjoyed my poem. I had a lot of fun writing it.

Thanks to See's for sponsoring my tart. They certainly didn't ask me to write a poem, but I got inspired by all the yummy chocolate!

If you'd like to make your own hot cocoa tart, here's the recipe:

Tart Crust
  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Mix 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 6 tablespoons See's Double Chocolate Cocoa, a heaping ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, and ¾ cup melted butter until fully combined.
  • Press into a greased 11"  tart pan and bake for 25 minutes.
Tart Filling
  • Melt 6 tablespoons unsalted butter on medium heat.
  • Add 2 cups heavy whipping cream and ½ cup See's Double Chocolate Cocoa, and heat until it just starts to bubble, stirring regularly.
  • Remove from the heat and cool until comfortable to touch (10-15 minutes).
  • Mix in 2 beaten eggs
  • Pour into tart shell until ¾ full (bake any extra filling in ramekins).
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until fully baked with just a little jiggle in the center.
  • Cool to room temp and refrigerate for several hours.
  • Top with crushed See's Holiday Bordeaux, crushed See's peppermint twists, and rosemary sprigs.
Tart to you soon,
