As I was doing some lawn work around my house, I was also worshiping while listening to music on an outdoor speaker. My friend, Pastor Abb Javine, had given me a CD by Tasha Cobb Leonard. I was intrigued by the song, "I'm getting ready" which features the phrase "Eyes haven't seen, And ears haven't heard, The kind of blessings, The kind of blessings, That's about to fall on me, whoa…He is doing a new thing.
I received the blessings which God has in store for me. In other words, God and I had a conversation in which I said, "Yes, Lord. Thank you that You are greater than my understanding to work all things to Your good pleasure in my life." But I also wanted to understand the context of the Bible verse to see if these blessings were a blank checkbook for me to fill in. Let me share what I have discerned thus far.
Paul is talking with the Corinthians about the power of the message of Jesus Christ for salvation. He spoke about the authority and power of Jesus to bring about salvation and reconciliation with God. He did not exhibit eloquence or worldly wisdom in trying to influence them to become followers of Jesus. He did demonstrate his message with power and authority which comes from Jesus.
In verse 10 Paul clearly states that these things which were previously unimagined, God has revealed them through the Holy Spirit to the followers of Jesus.
It may sound foolish, and even Paul says it goes against worldly understanding, BUT the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus for the salvation of mankind was hidden and unimaginable before hand. But this message is no longer hidden. Jesus is God's answer to all of mankind's sin problem. We carry this treasure of redemption and eternal life within our earthen vessels.
NO longer do we wait for eternal blessings…through our relationship with Jesus we have access to those blessings NOW. Somebody needs to shout AMEN!
Some Blessings To Enjoy
God has removed the barrier between us and Himself. We have access to the throne room of God
ALL our sins have been forgiven through the shed blood of Jesus on the cross…the mere mention of this brings gratefulness to our hearts
God created these earthen bodies to have the capacity to house the Spirit of God - the one who created all things - dwells within us. We are a temple for the Spirit of God.
We have an abiding peace which can weather any storm of life.
We are loved unconditionally and we have the fruit of love which helps us love our enemies
We are forgiven
We are in relationship with the God of the universe who promises to never leave us nor forsake us
Oh for a thousand tongues to sing…
Yes, God will work out all things for His good pleasure. He will help us out of our pits and despair. But the blessings of the riches found in Christ are incomparable to all the money the world has to offer or any material benefit.
Let us walk in the wisdom of God's Spirit for our lives today. He will lead you down paths of righteous living and restore your soul in green and fresh pastures. He is your shepherd.
