The Nutrition Mechanic Toolbox 🛠🥕

Tinkerings from the Toolbox

Hiya,  -

Are you training for triathlon? Check out these 3 common mistakes triathletes make during training that end up biting them in the behind when race day rolls around:
  1. Not practicing race nutrition at goal race intensity. While you may not do the full triathlon distance in a single day of training (leading up to race day), you still need to practice eating and drinking at the effort at which you intend to race. Without doing this, you don't have a sense for how well the fueling choices and timing of intake are going to support your intended energy output.
  2.  Neglecting the hydration plan. Neglecting hydration is kind of like forgetting to check the air pressure in your tires. It's a show stopper. Hydration is not just about drinking water, nor is it about an overload of sports drink product. There's a sweet spot for each athlete in terms of fluid amounts, composition of fluids, and a "drinking strategy" to keep blood plasma up so you can maintain focus and avoid the decrease in power and pace.
  3. Under-appreciating the role of your pre-training nutrition and hydration plan. I'm betting we all know triathletes who take better care of their swim goggles, bike, and running apparel more than the body behind it all. How you fuel and hydrate BEFORE key training sessions is a key part of your triathlon training as a whole. And waiting to the last minute to figure it out is lost opportunity and turns on panic mode.
If you want to check all the boxes for your triathlon nutrition, no matter whether you have a big race in June or September, be sure to check out our 4-week group program: Fuel Your Best 70.3 Triathlon

This cost-conscious coaching program is for all long course triathletes who want to dive deeper into optimizing training AND race day nutrition and hydration without spending hours on Facebook forums and the GoogleMachine to figure out what to do.

We start on May 2nd so don't miss this opportunity....No one wants a poor fueling plan to ruin their race. You with us?

FREE PERIMENOPAUSAL ATHLETE SUMMIT
For all the coaches out there ... and all the perimenopausal athletes, my pal Tenille Hoogland has assembled a crew of 20 experts on female physiology, training, nutrition, recovery and mindset for a FREE 10-day masterclass series: Perimenopausal Athletes and Beyond. This is my 2nd time to participate in this AWESOME summit, but this time, I partner up with my Bob Seebohar to talk about Metabolic Efficiency Training (an often misunderstood approach to nutrition and training).

The summit starts on May 1 so be sure to register so you get access to all of the interviews and freebie resources, in addition to arming yourself with knowledge and tools to optimize training, nutrition and recovery for the perimeno athlete.
ICYMI: On the latest Inside Sports Nutrition podcast episodes:
  1. Our interview with Chef Kelly Newlon of RAD (Real Athlete Diets). She feeds the elite and the pro ultra runners (yes, she's fed Killian Jornet before). Tune in to hear how she decided to start RAD and get more insight into what it's like to be in the business of feeding ultra runners. Episode 22
  2. My co-host, Bob, ate ONE single food for 20+ hours while trekking the Grand Canyon recently. Is he nutty or was he doing one of his crazy nutrition experiments? (maybe both?? 🤣) Episode 21
Nourish your awesomeness,
-Dina
