| Hi there, I hope you're having a nice week! Today is the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival and the celebration lasts through the weekend. It's the time of year that family members get together to make and enjoy zongzi - sticky rice dumplings. I plan to video chat with my parents (they live in China) this evening, and enjoy the sweet dumplings I just made :) In the past, I've shared recipes for savory pork zongzi and Northern-style sweet zongzi with red bean paste. Today I want to share a new zongzi recipe - Alkaline Zongzi (or Alkaline dumplings). This type of zongzi uses alkaline water to soak the rice, to create an extra gooey and soft texture. The version I made has red bean paste in it, but you can also make it plain. If you're planning to make some zongzi this weekend, check this one out! Totally unrelated to food, recently I've been obsessed with the TwoSetViolin Youtube channel. They are two Taiwanese violinists who create super funny videos related to classical music. Check out their popular uploads during your lunch break if you like music, or simply want to watch something fun. Lastly, I want to ask - what have you been cooking these days? New York is getting quite hot, though I still find myself spending time in the kitchen. I like to keep my cooking limited to quick stir fries, fried rice, and salads. For that reason I'm going to create more easy summer recipes this month. If there's any recipe you'd like to learn, reply to this email and let me know. Happy Dragon Boat Festival and see you next week! Maggie |
