| Hiya E! Want to enjoy an adult beverage this weekend without ruining your progress, girlfriend? I gotchu. Now, before I move on, I do gotta tell you that, if you are trying to lose fat and build muscle, having regular alcohol is going to make that pretty hard due to the fact that it increases your stress hormones, isn't nutritious for your body AND it greatly impairs your fat metabolism. So, if you're one of those women that use a glass of wine at night to de-stress, you're doing yourself a big disservice. But, having a drink or two once in awhile isn't going to hurt you and here are my best tips to live a little while holding yourself accountable to your goals: Choose lower calorie options - Dry wine, hard seltzer, and plain hard liquor are going to be your best bet for lower calorie options. I'd recommend staying away from the coolers, sweet wine or pre-mixed drinks as you're going to get a huge sugar bomb and lots of extra carbs. Choose lower calorie mixers- If you're drinking things with hard liquor, choose low calorie mixers like diet pop or sugar free juice. Yes, they likely have Splenda. But a little but of this infrequently is not going to hurt you. I promise. You can also use things like club soda and lemon or lime juice! Eliminate decision-making fatigue - Decide how many drinks you will have in advance. Don't let the voice of compromise or peer pressure take over. Remember, you can still have a great time without over-drinking. Decide what time you will start drinking - You are allowed to choose how you handle holidays. Starting to drink at 1pm but only trying to have 2 glasses of wine all day is probably going to make you feel super restricted and left out. Decide on those 2 glasses after 6pm, or something like that, and focus on fueling and hydrating throughout the day. Alternate water with a drink - This will prevent you from drinking too much and will keep you hydrated so you feel good the next day :) Don't drink on an empty stomach - Trying to drink on an empty stomach never ends well. You'll feel drunk realllll quick, which will make you feel sick and likely make some not so physique friendly food choices. Go into the day feeling satisfied, not stuffed so you don't get hit by the booze too quickly. If you're tracking your food, you can track your alcohol and make sure the rest of what you eat is real food to give your body the most support you can! Ultimately, remember the social events are not ABOUT food and drinks. Food and drinks are just PART of them. You can enjoy the company and make memories without having to drink a ton or eat EVERYTHING. That is what true balance is - especially when you are working on a physique goal. Which of these are you going to use? Hit "REPLY" and let me know! Grounded in His Grace and guided by science Taylor :) Helping Christian women lose weight on their body, mind, and soul |
