Recipes to keep you cool

The past few weeks have been crazy hot, and for many meals I've been eating bowls of yogurt or making smoothies. These are both quick and easy, but if you want something with a bit more panache, here are some of my favorite cool dishes that require little to no cooking, such as ceviche or tomato salad with cornbread croutons. I've also featured my favorite hot-weather desserts, like this no-bake lemon-lime icebox pie or a host of ice creams, such as pecan-peach or canteloupe. Stay cool and hopefully the heat wave breaks soon!

There is no one way to make huevos rancheros, the Tex-Mex combination of egg, tortilla, and salsa. Simple and elegant, these might be my favorite huevos rancheros of all. A new post from my subscriber program of premium recipes, which helps support the site.

Meet Chuck Charnichart. She has been the brisket pitmaster at Texas Monthly's number one Goldee's since the fall. She's having a pop-up at Goldee's next weekend, August 5-6, with hours being 11 until sold-out, which will probably happen fast. She plans to return to the Austin area later this year to open a brick and mortar, called Barbs B Q, so if you're in DFW, I highly recommend you come check out her amazing barbecue and sides, all inspired by Brownsville, her hometown. Menu items include brisket, ribs, chicken, choriqueso sausage, green spaghetti, cactus salad, and beans a la charra.
