I updated this post for Caramelitas (aka chocolate caramel bars) from 2012 and I'm instantly regretting not doing it sooner, because -- holy delicious! 😋
I remember them like it was yesterday though, and while they were delicious I remember the dough being a little wet, so I tweaked the dough with a little extra flour and they weren't quite as brown and crisp as they were the last time. Plus they held together better. Awesome! 🙌🏻

A 9x9-inch pan makes 16 perfect squares for just the right amount of indulgence. You can easily double the recipe for a 9x13 inch pan.
