Homesick Texan subscriptions update, 2022

Four years ago, I launched the Homesick Texan subscription program. At the time, a decline in ad revenue had me using my savings to keep the site afloat, and I was at a crossroads—either shut down Homesick Texan or come up with a new income stream. Offering paid content on a food blog was unusual in 2018, but many of you offered your support, and I've been very grateful.

While there are several ways to shape a paid subscription program, my idea was to offer exclusive recipes for paying members. Some of these have included: chili-cheese enchilada casseroleMichelada shrimp cocktailgreen chile cheeseburger macSouth Texas sweet snack mix, choirqueso pan pizza, and tamale breakfast casserole

Here's the full delicious list of recipes, which now includes 100 recipes that have never been published before, either on the site or in my books.

The subscription program has worked, as its revenue brings in half of what is needed to maintain the blog. If you'd like to join, I've kept the pricing the same since I began, with the entry-level subscription at $25 for the entire year, about the cost of lunch for two. A subscription also makes a fine gift!

Thank you for your continued support of Homesick Texan. Everything you do makes this worthwhile: from being a subscriber to linking to posts, and from leaving a comment to writing me an email. It's a joy to share recipes and stories with you. Thank you for reading, and happy cooking!

Mexican chocolate granola

We are a granola family. While we typically stick to the recipe that my Uncle Austin has been cooking for us for many years, I recently decided to shake things up a bit by adding cocoa powder to my batch. Inspired by Mexican hot chocolate, which is heavily flavored with cinnamon and vanilla, I added those to my granola, too. The result had a warm depth of flavor that works for breakfast but can go on top of ice cream or be eaten as a snack.

You'll want to make this Texas red ranch party mix, a blend of seasoned oyster crackers with the classic cereal and nut party mix. And you may even want to double your batch. I couldn't stop snacking on it, and I'm guessing you won't be able to stop, as well.
