Watched this movie at Alice's - my favourite movie theatre in Christchurch.
This is the story of Mr. Williams (Bill Nighy), a man who has become trapped in the monotonous clockwork of everyday life, lacking inspiration in a postwar world.
When he discovers he is terminally ill, he confronts his past and seeks to salvage what he has left of his future. He befriends his ex-colleague Miss Harris, and her youthful vibrancy and zest for life rubs off on him.
He realizes that before he dies, he wants to do something meaningful, something he can be remembered for.
I don't rate Bill Nighy's acting ability. I always think he just plays himself in any movie I've seen him in. I went to this movie because Jane wanted to see it . . . .
I confess I actually enjoyed the movie. Sure Nighy was still Nighy, but the story didn't need him to be anyone else except a boring old man.
