Our tips for thick, creamy smoothies

Hi reader,

One of the most common issues AK readers say they face is getting the right smoothie texture. For AK Smoothie Challenge Day 4 we've got the best tips for making smoothies that are perfectly creamy instead of too thick or too thin.

Creamy smoothies every time

  1. Use a high-quality blender: investing in a good blender one of the best ways to ensure that you don't end up with grainy smoothie textures. See below for a variety of options!
  2. Skip the ice: it may sound strange, but ice can actually make your smoothie watery and is tough for many blenders to blend completely smooth. Instead, use all frozen fruits and veggies to keep your smoothie cold and creamy.
  3. Add more liquid: if your smoothie is tough to blend or way too thick, don't be afraid to add more milk or liquid to create the perfect texture.
  4. Blend, add ingredients & blend again: if you're adding ingredients with a variety of textures (i.e. frozen fruit vs. spinach leaves), try adding a couple in at a time with the liquid, blending them, and then adding others. This will help reduce grainy textures.
  5. Still looking for more of a creamy texture? Try adding a little yogurt or avocado for the creamiest, dreamiest texture.

Vitamix: my go-to blender is the Vitamix A2300. It's super powerful and blends up frozen fruit really well!

Ninja: I know many people that have a Ninja blender and love it! It comes with single-serve cups to make mornings a breeze.

Nutribullet: if you're looking to make smoothies for one the Nutribullet is a great, very affordable option!
