Hi edward,
I just returned home from a spring break trip to visit family in Florida. My grandparents moved to Florida from New York when I was a kid, my aunt followed suit, and eventually my mom joined the crew. I've gone there at least once almost every year of my life.
Although Florida has a wealth of amazing food - the area near my Grandma has lots of great Cuban places - for me, Florida has always meant classic Jewish food from Grandma and trips to my grandparents' favorite bagel place.
Then, there are the oranges.
Each year, my grandparents would send us a big box of juicy Florida oranges. Back then, we didn't get packages often and ordering online didn't exist. The arrival of the box was always a really big deal.
If I received a big box of oranges now, here's what I would bake:
- Orange olive oil cake - It's super easy to make and has a wonderful, refreshing flavor.
- Orange curd - You can use orange curd wherever you would use jam. It's great as a filling in cakes and cupcakes, but it's also wonderful on toast or spread on pancakes or waffles.
- Chocolate orange cheesecake - I make it with an Oreo crust and it's crazy good!
What's your favorite dessert to make with oranges?
Orange ya glad it's Friday,
