About Farmersgirl Kitchen and me, Janice!

Hi e e,

I hope you are enjoying my recipes.

I thought I would tell you a little bit about me. I live on a small farm in the South West of Scotland where my husband and I raise beef cattle.

I love to cook and bake. It's been my passion since I was a child. I also love to grow vegetables, fruit and flowers in my garden and, of course, I spend time cooking, baking and writing up my recipes to share with you at Farmersgirl Kitchen.

I'm a wife, mother and grandmother and until recently I worked full-time in a demanding job whilst helping out on the farm at weekends. So, I know how challenging it can be to juggle work and family.

I've been sharing my simple family-friendly recipes since 2007, recently focusing more on Scottish classic and seasonal recipes.

Find Recipes

There are several ways that you can find recipes and other posts around the site.

I would recommend that you start with my Recipe Index. Here you'll find all my recipes split by categories such as Drinks, Soup, Main Course and Light Bites.

You can also find the recipe index in the menu at the top of every page along with other ways to sort recipes such as by season. I've also given you a handy shortcut to find my Scottish inspired and traditional recipes.

Want to Grow Your Own?
Field to Fork

I'm passionate about growing my own and I've recently started sharing my knowledge to help you to grow some produce too. I also have lots of recipes and recipe collections which make the most of fresh Scottish produce in season.

These are some of my favourites.

How to Grow Salad Bowl Lettuce

How to Grow Salad Bowl Lettuce is a step by step guide to show you how easy it is to grow salad leaves so you can enjoy fresh salad all summer long. I've also included some recipes for you to make with your lettuce at the end of this page.

How to Make Blackcurrant Jam

Thisis one of the easiest jam's you can make. Blackcurrants are naturally high in pectin which is the agent required to make the jam set.  You don't need to add any additional pectin or lemon juice, just blackcurrants, water, and sugar.
